Snapping to grid and a few other questions
  • Hello all, new user aboard here. Ohm Studio looks really good, exactly what my band and I are looking for.

Ok, I have a few questions about snapping to grid that I couldn't find answers to anywhere.

First of all, how to I make the caret/playhead/cursor (whatever that yellow line is called) snap to grid? When I click in the Measures-bar, it moves, but will not snap to grid. How can I make it do this? And when I try to move or resize an audio clip, it snaps exactly n measures forward (but NOT to grid).

When I click in the arrange window, the little white cursor will snap to grid. This works fine. But when I use arrow keys to move backwards or forward, it will move one beat (in the bar/measure), but I can NOT make it go back to the first beat in the bar/the grid. Is this how it's supposed to work?

Also I can't make the tempo and signature lines in the top snap to grid. They are pretty difficult to delete with the delete tool too.

Anyways, thanks for a very promising tool, looking forward to playing more around with it.

  • Ok, I see that when I zoom in, I have more snap options with the audio clip. This way I can snap the audio clip to the grid. Very nice.

I also figured out that the little white cursor works much better when zoomed in. As soon as I zoom so far in that I can see the beat-lines in every bar/measure, the white cursor will move correctly along all beat-lines, also the big one (the one that is the first in the bar).

But when I zoom out and move the white cursor with the arrow keys, I can no longer move it to that first beat.

The thing that we call "Caret" is the white blinking line. The Playhead is the vertical yellow line. The playhead never snaps to the grid unlike the Caret.

We've had a lot of complaints about the way zooming and "snap to grid" work and we want to improve it a.s.a.p. ... Please be patient  :)

That's a bug, not how it's supposed to work.

Currently the signature track is very buggy (I recommend not to use it). To delete tempo change event you have to select them one by one and press del/backspace.

We'll improve all those things soon hopefully.

Meanwhile here are 2 tips/workarounds for you:
    - to snap the playhead to the grid, you can draw a loop region and then click on the stop button (or press Return key) several times. This will move the Playhead to the begenning of the Loop region.
    - to move/resize/copy/loop patterns with the "snap to grid" turned off, you can press & hold the cmd key while moving the mouse.

Don't hesitate to use the forum if you have more questions.

    Thanks
  • Thank you very much for the very detailed answer! Definitely very usable. Ok, time to play...
